Episode 153 The Garrison Investigation Part 3 Garrison In His Own Words Published Feb 16, 2023
Episode 153 is the third in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. This episode gives Garrison the floor in 1967, recorded at a lecture, and attended by a supportive audience. He outlines his view (as the facts appeared to him at that moment) of what happened in the assassination. Few venues (including the 30 minute NBC rebuttal, which you also will hear later in the series) offer such a relaxed forum without a time constraint. A forum that offers a rare and relaxed glimpse of Jim Garrison and his mindset during that period of time. Jim Garrison was the New Orleans district attorney and, a result of his investigation into the murder of JFK, Clay Shaw was indicted by a grand jury and tried on conspiracy charges to assassinate the president. It was the only criminal trial ever conducted in the United States related to the president’s murder. Garrison’s investigation and trial became the inspiration and partial basis for Oliver Stone’s movie JFK. Today’s episode introduces us to more Jim Garrison’s thinking as a precursor to understanding the details of the Clay Shaw trial and to help in our own understanding of the actions taken by Garrison and his thinking which shaped the events of the grand jury investigation and the subsequent trial. All of these elements are designed to, collectively, help you as the juror determine Garrison’s proper place in the history of the JFK assassination story. Enjoy! Jeff

Hi Roger,
Thanks so much for the kind words. I am glad you are enjoying the podcast. It is my hope that we can all enjoy the wander and journey into the details of this… and come away with a better understanding of what really happened….and replace the soundbites with a better more robust articulation of the events and the facts, in the context of the period and circumstances in which they took place.
Hope you keep listening from Australia and please do keep in touch!
Jeff
